Seeing Beyond

Consulting Services

Seeing Beyond LLC shares its educational experiences from a multifaceted perspective. We see the impact of our work at many levels and believe that our educational and personal experiences as well as our knowledge and skills are a valuable support to many school communities, staff and most importantly, the students.

Our services are anchored in deep understanding of tiered systems, structures, and classroom instruction that cultivate access to rigorous teaching and learning for EVERY student. Regardless of the makeup of students in a classroom, differentiated and personalized instruction is a way to accelerate learning and engagement for EVERY student. Knowing that the above is essential for students, we believe the same for our teachers and administrators.

The following are the catalyst for our work and services we provide:

Multilingual Learners (ML)

Each year, more and more Multilingual Learners (MLs) grace our classrooms with their presence and bring great assets with them. This challenges our communities, school board members, school administrators, teachers, and staff to see beyond their English language limitations into their potential and provide equitable access to the core instruction in ways that accelerate their language acquisition, build on students’ strengths, and liberate them to meet their dreams. Over the last decade, we have worked to expand and challenge staff pedagogy around instruction and systems that move us beyond the inequitable practices that have worked for the past 200 years. Through equity training, language and literacy small groups, Guided Language Acquisition Design, Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol, WA State Standards including Language Standards used in differentiated unit, lesson, and assessment design, we have seen great change in districts, schools, classrooms, and community as they build culturally responsive infrastructures that enable teachers to provide high quality instruction for language learners, and in turn all of their students. Our expertise is anchored in language, literacy, and content integration and is grounded in equity and low affective filters for MLs to succeed. In addition, we have deep knowledge and understanding in ML/EL programming requirements in the state of WA as well as federal, state and grant funding sources that enable districts to meet the requirements and go beyond.

English Language Arts (ELA)

Reading/Writing/Listening/Speaking/Language are critical modalities for students to process, access, share, and expand their learning in every content area. We have provided high quality trainings and coaching support in all six modalities and their interconnectedness. The trainings are always aligned with  WA State Learning Standards, and framed around districts’ teacher evaluation systems. Large group, small group, and individual coaching support focused on backwards planning, unit, and lesson design is a basis in which we lead through. Balanced Literacy and the Workshop Model are essentials to ensure that teachers and students have the structures in place for individualized learning through the gradual release of responsibility model.

Consulting Services

It is essential that we make a choice to see beyond. Preparing ALL children to live successfully with a solid foundation has a ripple effect that is felt in their classroom, their school, and finally the neighborhood they live in. Our firm provides educational consulting and training services focused on the integration of language, literacy, and content that accelerates the growth of every child, in particular, Multilingual Learners.
